WHAT'S ON SALE?

When is a sale not a sale? Be a smart shopper and save money.

When you go shopping, take time to think, “Do I need that item?” If your jeans are worn out, then you may need a new pair. A pair of jeans on sale might be the smart way to go.

Before you go to a sale, make a list of items you are shopping for. This way you can save time and money. If you come home with items you don’t need, and don’t even want, then you’ve experience impulse buying. So, before you head out to shop, take a few minutes to decide whether you need to buy anything and be sure to take along a list. The less money you spend on impulse, the more money you’ll have to buy something you really need.

Activity
1. Go through the sale ads in the Sunday Herald-Leader. Circle a few sale items that look like something you want. Then go back and look again. What’s the price? Do you really need those items? Are the items a good sale price or can you find that same item for a better price in another store’s ad?
2. Can you think of ways your family could or already does save time or money? Make a list and post it on your refrigerator.
3. The Herald-Leader is full of helpful tips for everything from cooking to saving time and money. Go through your Herald-Leader and cut or print articles. Put them in a file and read them over and over.
